Music, The Language Of The Soul

The holiday season
always presents opportunities for outreach. I’ve found that a great
point of connection is music. Whether Hanukkah or Christmas, music is a
large part of people’s celebration.
Faith Eisler, a member of our local congregation, Hope of Israel,
invited our sisterhood to come to her retirement community to celebrate
Hanukkah. Faith grew up in an Orthodox Jewish tradition in Brooklyn. |

Two years ago during the Christmas
season she was deeply moved by hearing beautiful Christmas music
presented by a visiting choir. In fact, she asked if she could visit
their church just to hear more of their music.
Faith eventually accepted Yeshua and became a member of Hope of Israel
Congregation. Faith, who is now 74, loves to share Messiah in her new
retirement village and is desirous for both the Jewish and non Jewish
residents to understand more of her faith in Messiah. |

I enjoyed organizing the team of moms
and their children in a program full of music including: Israeli dance,
piano solos, violin solos, and just singing together as we weaved in the
story of Hanukkah. We sang praise choruses from the Psalms declaring
together “It is good to praise the Lord.” After telling the Hanukkah
story I introduced six year old Luke who had prepared two special violin
numbers. I wanted to tie in the miracle of Hanukkah into his violin
pieces.
Luke’s first song was entitled HaTikvah
- the Hope - which is the national anthem of Israel. Just has God has
preserved Israel as a nation and given them hope, God can give us hope
as well when we trust in Him, and His promises for our lives. After the
applause died down I introduced Luke’s next number that is perhaps the
most well known hymn of all time, “Amazing Grace.” It is only by God’s
amazing grace that the Jewish people were given the victory and rest
from their enemies. Today we also can have His victory in our lives and
rest for our souls. God expressed His love to us through giving His
Son, in response we can express our love to God through giving ourselves
to others. We were blessed by the enthusiastic feedback from all who
attended. In fact one of the Jewish residents expressed interest in
attending our services. We are looking forward to return again and
ministering God’s love through music and testimony. Let us pray that the
seeds of God’s Word will come to fruition.
