Questions about Isaiah 53
Q.  A question at a Bible conference in Pennsylvania:
“Why does Isaiah 53:10 say, ‘It pleased the Lord to crush him?’ It seems strange that God would ever be pleased to crush anyone, let alone Messiah, who was without sin?”

A.  The same Hebrew word, ‘chafets’, for ‘pleased’, is again used later in that verse, “And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.” It was not a happy or pleasurable experience for the Lord, but it fulfilled His eternal will, and His good pleasure and deep desire for the salvation of mankind. There's a story that illustrates this. Through the Kramer’s sacrifice all forty-seven Jews in the bunker that night escaped death, some to fight with the partisans, many ultimately reaching Israel. That's why Josef Kramer and his wife presented the synagogue with a Torah scroll in memory of their son. That's also why present at that ceremony were most of the Jews whose lives were saved by Kramer's desperate sacrifice.
Messiah's sacrifice was desperate as well. God is desperate to save people from destruction. His eternal love for us was evident in the death of His own Son, Messiah Yeshua, and He is pleased His death would save us.
